Our projects are love letters to fan communities, so we understand the importance of fan and derivative work.
However, due to both legal reasons and other concerns on the modern internet, we need to set some guidelines on what sorts of derivative works we will allow or disallow.
Please understand that these guidelines may change in future.
Allowed works
- Fan-made artworks (fanart)
- Fan-made writing (fanfic)
- Fan-made videos or animations (AMVs)
Disallowed works
- Reimplementations of gameplay mechanics, especially clones or simulators for rhythm games
- Works that imply they are officially associated with Team Linocut or its games without permission
- Works that promote hate speech, including but not limited to racism, misogyny, homophobia, or transphobia
- Works that make use of cryptocurrency, NFTs, or generative AI
Custom hardware
beatDROP ~Heaven!!~ is designed to use a custom controller, which will be made open-source hardware as it is not economically feasible to mass-produce hardware at our small scale.
That being said, we would request that batch deck sales be kept to a "group buy" model in most cases.
If an existing rhythm game hardware manufacturer would like to design and sell their own decks, we would request they contact Team Linocut directly to discuss design and permission.
Fan merchandise
As none of Team Linocut's games are yet released, we will not be allowing fan merchandise at this time.
Custom charts
beatDROP ~Heaven!!~ is specifically inspired by the In The Groove 2 and Stepmania customs scene, and would not exist without the support of many of the people in the community.
Unfortunately, being a commercially-released game puts it in a difficult situation with regards to copyright law and licensing of customs.
There will be customs support implemented, but it will require a permission system that does not yet exist, so it will not be available until some time after the game's release.
As for charting beatDROP ~Heaven!!~ original songs in other rhythm games, that will be decided on a song-by-song basis. Please wait until further information is given.
